Desolated
Live
When you’re stood around chatting to these five boys in their late teens/early twenties, it’s easy to judge them as go-nowhere wannabes with expensive guitars and (probably) no talent.
When they get up on stage to perform their second-ever gig, you’re quickly proved wrong. They may be young and inexperienced, but Desolated know exactly what a metal-crowd want to see and hear. They’ve practised hard, and it’s paid off.
All hell breaks loose in the pit as they open with ‘Slaughtered’, and not a note is missed throughout the six-song set. The only people in The Joiners not thrashing and writhing are a couple of proud mums and dads, and yours truly, who barely managed to desist.
Too often I’ve been to The Joiners, mid-week, and cringed as onlookers stand uncomfortably while a band are on stage. This evening was so far removed from that horror that I’m still in disbelief the morning after.
Too many up-and-coming bands find it necessary to perform embarrassing stage antics in the name of entertainment; Desolated are different. Raw, brutal, pure and simple talent and ambition take the place of childishness.
You may scoff when I say that the eighty or so people in the bar that night were there to support Desolated, but when the second band opened their set to an almost empty room, the proof was there.
These guys are going to be huge and I await their demo with great anticipation.
