Germinal - Return to Hibernation. A dark reddish-brown cover with 10 abstract shapes that look a bit like people.

Germinal
Baby Beirut

Germinal supply high-contrast music with a hint of Nick Cave and a bit more than a hint of Edwyn Collins.

All three songs on this pre-album sampler hint a dark rock influence and they create the atmosphere well, with some innovative drums adding important interest to songs that are truly dour.

You would really have to empathise with the truly gloomy feel of this record to appreciate it.

If you’re a fan of dark-rock that’s firmly on the sullen shadowed side of the street, this is perfect. Otherwise, it may be one to avoid.
