Blue and green record exploding into shards

The Tunguska Event
…And You Call That a Relapse? LP

Every bit a classy album, this Muse-style LP from the Tunguska Event is nothing short of epic, brimming with fantastic musicianship and something really gritty. The wavering vocals match Matt Bellamy almost identically, pouring every ounce of emotion into his songs.

‘…and you call that a relapse’ is real rock with fast-paced guitars and well-placed backing vocals, moving to a dramatic change for the soft ‘Aphonia’. A charming melodic introduction flows into pounding bass lines before the final crash of guitars completes this angular music. Not to mention the great chorus and eerie rise and fall of the vocals. It’s difficult not to like every second of this eccentric rock.

It’s rare that bonus tracks really exceed the rest, but ‘Dry Tounge’ and ‘So What is New’ really lay waste to any such assumption with ballsy vocals and in-your-face riffs. Every song on the record stands out, and saving the best for last, there’s not one track that shouldn’t be there.
