Eye Am are a doomy supergroup featuring Kenny Hickey and Johnny Kelly of Type O Negative, with Kirk Windstein and Todd Strange of (and formerly of) Crowbar. ‘Dreams Always Die With The Sun’ is their first release and it’s a surge of ocean smashing into the rocks of expectation.

There’s plenty here for fans of both sources. They both share a slow, deep, heavy sound and the combination sees a hooky guitar line lead into an immense riff-driven slow melodic metal. Although it’s expected in a supergroup, this band have it going on in all departments.

The verse has a soaring vocal melody, with low-down guitars and thick resonating bass tracking the riff. Harmonies are used sparingly to punctuate the verses, with the chorus getting more backing vocals to thicken up the cries of ‘dreams always die with the sun’.

A brief and beautiful solo is accompanied by a double up on the drums and then there’s an epic version of the chorus. It’s a rather polished affair given the brevity of the creative process. Imagine what they could do with more time! The band plans to get together at the end of June to write more music. Until then, this is the only song.

Oh yeah, and about that coastal reference… it turns out the ocean wins. This is obviously for fans of Type O Negative and Crowbar, but also Soundgarden and System of a Down. Basically, if you like something complex, heavy, and melodic.

Dreams Always Die With The Sun Lyrics

Fire angry messages on social if we’ve misheard something here!

I’ve seen you low
And buried beneath hollow ground
Yeah
Some say you’re spinning and floating
You’ll never come down
But are you reeling?

But are you reeling?
But are you reeling?

I dreamed you breathing
But dreams always die with the sun
Hah yeah
Lost in between empty spaces
You’re never around
But are you reeling?

But are you reeling?
But are you reeling?
But are you reeling?
But are you reeling?

Dreams always die with the sun
Dreams always die with the sun
Dreams always die with the sun
Dreams always die with the sun

Dreams always die with the sun
Dreams always die with the sun
Dreams always die with the sun
Dreams always die with the sun
