Oxford post-hardcore five-piece, Lastelle, certainly know how to create atmosphere. And it’s an epic mood they whip up for ‘Breathe Me In’.

The song moves through layers of different intensity, weaving the loud and quiet together and taking things quickly up and down the decibel meter. The band’s super-power is sharing the vocal duties, which gives them a great range of tones and the ability to deploy a little sparring here and there.

‘Breathe Me In’ is about wanting to go back to a moment where everything felt perfect. It is about the hardships of falling out of love, or at least not feeling love in the same way it felt before, and dreaming of a return to a reality where those feelings are still alive.

Freddie Whatmore

The song certainly leans into a sense of loss, something their self-directed video captures perfectly. This is such a strong track, it’s going to appeal to a broad range of metal and EMO fans. Throw it on your record player and bask.

Breathe Me In Lyrics

Breathe me in for a while
Breathe me in for a while

I see you on the edge of every waking dream
You’re barely out of reach
I wonder what it means

I cannot fall asleep
I close my eyes,
You’re looking back at me,
Through hazy memories
Longing for clarity
Should I welcome you in,
Or lose everything?
Clouding my waking mind
I’d give every breath I have left,
For you to breathe me in for a while

Breathe me in for a while
Breathe me in for a while

Your palm outstretched and open,
I strain to reach your fingertips,
But there’s no future I can read for us

We’ve fallen out of touch
With ourselves
Love so dissonant
I’ll dream in harmony,
Of you and I

Breathe me in for a while
Breathe me in for a while
What if we fall, fall back in love?
What if our best was good enough?
What if you just breathe me in for a while?

We’d blame ourselves again,
For giving up on us
What do we know?
This path that brought us here,
Hidden in the overgrowth
(Hidden in the overgrowth)
This guilt hangs so heavy on our minds
(You’re haunting my dreams
Falling out of reach of me.)
This love has left us both behind.

Breathe me in for a while.
Breathe me in for a while.
What if we fall, fall back in love
What if our best was good enough?
What if you just breathe me in for a while?
