Hard Call

There’s an excellent two-seconds of wondering if I put the right record on when ‘Hard Call’ sparks into life, but as the third second enters the room the drum fill rushes us along to the full-on guitar sound and we’re heading deep into the song.

So, how do we sum up the feeling of this song. It’s filled with sonic sunshine, despite the breakup theme to the lyrics. It’s got spark and switch that brings to mind The 1975 and the chorus has a flicker of an ancient pop element, though I’m unable to conjure enough of that memory to form the song it connects me to.

It’s all a Good Terms track, so there’s a giant solo and a huge breakdown thrown in. I think the sound, the quality, and the chorus are enough to convince most folks, but Good Terms aren’t an “enough” kind of band, there a “more” kinds of band and you have to love that.

Good Terms haven’t put out a bad song yet and they certainly haven’t this time either.

Hard Call Lyrics

I know
That we’ll be back to us
Before hanging up
No that’s not what I’m so worried about
The signal’s breaking up
Fears you’re making up
I’m wondering: should I just put the phone down?

Used to pick up by the second ring
But I’m having second thoughts of everything now
Oh this has been a dream
Now I’m losing sleep
Wasn’t meant to be

I’m not ready
But I think it’s time to make the hard call to call it off
I’ll stay steady
But I think it’s time to make the hard call
The hard call to call it off

I still have tickets for the plane
To go out your way
I guess we should stay together till then
I’ll skip the baggage claim
Have to carry that weight
That’s okay

There’s never a good time for bad news
No matter how hard I try we both lose
It’s time to make one and one from two
There’s never a good time for goodbye

I’m not ready
But I think it’s time to make the hard call to call it off
I’ll stay steady
But I think it’s time to make the hard call
The hard call to call it off

I’m not ready
But I think it’s time to make the hard call to call it off
I’ll stay steady
But I think it’s time to make the hard call
The hard call to call it off

The hard call
The hard call to call it off
The hard call
The hard call to call it off
