Blue and green record exploding into shards

My Device
Jumbo Fiasco LP

My Device are an explosive cacophony of indie-fuzz. It’s all sharp-corners, uncomfortable twists and uneven surfaces like an artistic furniture flange made from broken glass and sandpaper.

Bearing this in mind, the album itself is very joined-up, aided by scuzzy segways between tracks that are abnormally formed.

It’s a bit like the carers have left the music-therapy room unattended at the institution, but in a good way (like they’re on the same treatment!) Some of it is chaos, but it spawns 14 good ideas in 35 minutes, out of which more than half are brilliant.

The far and away winners are ‘Life is a Blast’ and ‘Fountain of Youth’ from the start of the record, ‘Mybear’ from the middle and ‘That Girl Don’t Got No Shoes On’ from the end.

My Device are an audio-wedgie. Uncomfortable at times, but sometimes… Er.. Strangely pleasing!
