Stick-stick-stick-slap and The Molotovs are out of the gate, over the fence with a stuffed rabbit lure between their teeth, and dashing off with muzzle-wielding handlers scrambling behind them.

What we have here is Northern Uproar smooshed into The Jam and it’s full of energetic anthems delivered at varying paces, such as the urgent ‘Get A Life’ or the more bouncy ‘Daydreaming’. Don’t be fooled into believing it’s all just raucous nonsense, there’s a smartness to this, too.

The jangle of ‘More More More’ bursts into a warm bass drum and stuttering guitar, with a neat time flip that grabs your attention (as if it was waning). It’s full of spark and has a roundness to it that makes it pop right out.

The retro flavour of ‘Geraldine’ is pure joy, with its juddering verse beat and pushed chorus rhythm while ‘Newsflash’ delivers rapidity and pumping verses that make the lead vocal the star.

There’s something magical about a power trio and The Molotovs definitely have it. I’ve not mentioned every track in this review, but honestly this is an album stuffed with great stuff. It has the style of stuff that was around alongside punk, but perhaps not considered punk itself.
