This song promises much with the crispy emo fizz of the opening guitar, and delivers it with rhythmic switches and an all-too-short whip through this lost break up letter.

The verse is stilted and jerky, making the concise lyrics burst out of the spaces between the beat. It gets smooth and soft for the pre-chorus, and then adds more drive for the pop chorus. The switches from the more sparky riffs to the fuzzpop sections is effortless and, thanks to the lock in of guitar, bass, and drums in the intro and verses, it captures some of the magic that has always kept The Early November on my playlist.

This song has this petty tunnel vision — it’s like, ‘I hate you. You’re gonna stay here and listen to how much I hate you. Because I never got to say that.’

This song in one of fourteen on Beabadoobee’s forthcoming album, Pylon. There’s a ton of guest spots on the record, but I think ‘Sun Has Set’ might be one of the songs that lands best and lasts longest (though I’m always open to being proved wrong).

Sun Has Set Lyrics

Steal
Weigh it down
Tough loving
Don’t let go of
The feelings too
Cold-hearted
Stay honest

Don’t be so fake and affected
Scared of rejection
Lacking direction
Take you for a victim

When I say, “We’ll never be friends”
I mean, we’ll never pretend
Fuck that, you can never run back to me now
The sun has set
There’s so much we left unsaid
And so much that you don’t get
Fuck that, not worth thinking about to me now
This sun has set

Yeah, it’s over
Goodbyе now
You’ll find there’s
Nothing you could say
Just stay away
From me now
You’ll see how

Yеah, fake and affected
Scared of rejection
Lacking direction
Take you for a victim

When I say, “We’ll never be friends”
I mean, we’ll never pretend
Fuck that, you can never run back to me now
The sun has set
There’s so much we left unsaid
And so much that you don’t get
Fuck that, not worth thinking about to me now
This sun has set
