The introductory verses washes over you like a warm blanket for The Early November’s new single, ‘The Fool’. The song transforms more than once, becoming an emo anthem worthy of the much-anticipated eponymous album.

The song easily sweeps between the faster-paced moments and the reflective richness that’s between, supplying texture for the song’s lyrics. The song invites us to stop and look around us.

This song taps into the repetition of cycles we go through on the journey of life, and sometimes how we’re so ingrained in these cycles we don’t even notice when an opportunity is there.

The beat switches in the chorus provide spotlights for the lyrics and the way the song brings intense moments along with zen-like soundbeds and guitar sparkle means there’s always something changing as they notch it up and down.

The video continues the themes from ‘What We Earn’, which is a nice idea, too. The album comes out on 14th June, 2024.

The Fool Lyrics

Without a care
Always looking up
The journey of a fool
Knowing what you want
Unaware of the world
Or the precipice you are
You finally look at the ground
And recognize your scars

Why can’t you see me now?
What’s changed in all of us and how?
If I gave in to fear and doubt
Banish light from the sun
A shadow I am now
Am I a shadow?

And with a light step, it all feels kind of small
With my foot to the edge
Looking out is easier to fall
I’m zeroed in on the life
That apparently I want
With a light step
I’m tripping over everything I was

Why can’t you see me now?
What’s changed in all of us and how?
If I gave in to fear and doubt
Banish light from the sun
A shadow I am now
Am I a shadow?

Without a care
Always looking up
The journey of a fool
Knowing what you want
Unaware of the world
Or thе precipice you are
You finally look at thе ground
And recognize your scars
(Recognize)

Why can’t you see me now?
What’s changed in all of us and how?
If I gave in to fear and doubt
Banish light from the sun
A shadow I am now
Am I a shadow?
