Bush - The Art of Survival (Deluxe Edition)

All Things Must Change

Jump to...

When we listened to the recent long-player from Bush, The Art of Survival, we thought it was incredibly strong. When a deluxe version was issued, along with a new single, ‘All Things Must Change’, it was kinda amazing that they had songs like this in the bag that didn’t make the album.

So, ‘All Things Must Change’, isn’t a song you’ve heard if you listen to the album, but rest assured it’s a worthy single. If they have more tracks like this one on the cutting room floor, the deluxe edition is going to be worth looking up.

A brief swirl of keys and a distant vocal give way to pounding guitars and drums. The word heavy is often used to describe a genre, but I want to be clear that the sound of this intro is heavy as in weighty, like the air itself is made of something heavier than water.

With the tone set, it’s a curiosity how Bush will elevate a chorus out of this. They deploy a bit of art for this, pulling things back just before the chorus kicks, to make sure it feels like you’ve walked into a concrete wall.

This could have been the lead single on the album, it’s top drawer. What must it be like to have “almost rans” this good?

All Things Must Change Lyrics

All things must change

Forgive yourself, let it slide
You can’t sink so far inside
Colours collide on the daydream
Bright like the face of the sun
Letting yourself become water
Love like you just begun

You always come fast

Walk like Superman
Run like the wind in the rain
All things must change
All things must change

Forgive your heroes inside
You can’t run from what you hide
Give yourself to the dangers
Open yourself to the stars
Think of ancient symbols
Thе work of a brilliant heart

You always come fast

Walk like Supеrman
Run like the wind in the rain
Breathe through all of this
Nothing stays the same
All things must change
All things must change
All things must change
All things must change

There’s something in the water
All the fish are dead
There’s something in the water
It was everything you said, it was everything

Walk like Superman
Run like the wind in the rain
Breathe through all of this
Nothing stays the same

All things must change
All things must change
All things must change
All things must change
