Bush - The Art of Survival (Deluxe Edition)

Bush
1000 Years (feat. Amy Lee)

Jump to...

The deluxe edition of The Art of Survival has given us some incredible bonus tracks on top of the originals. This release, though, is one of the original album tracks; but a different version. This one features Amy Lee of Evanescence.

Now, Amy has done some incredible collaborations (if you haven’t heard her singing with Lizzy Hale in ‘Break In’, add it to your list of jobs to be done). On this occasion, the contrast between her voice and Gavin Rossdale is triumphantly successful.

‘1000 Years’ was the closer for the original album, and it remains very similar in form to the original version. I had to check though as it does sound very different when those harmonies kick in. Lee is a bit of an expert in these things, so she deploys different parts of her voice to great effect. There are parts that are soft and smooth, and then it rises up and comes in waves of different power.

This is a great song and you’ll definitely appreciate this new manifestation!

1000 Years Lyrics

Never get her back, get your baby back
Never gonna find that one again
Never get him back, never had your back
Never get him ’round your house again

See you in the dark, searching for your heart
See you when the rivers rise
See you when we meet, see you when you fall
See you when the spider bites

You were wrong to me
You set me free
And I wish we could sleep
For a thousand years
I love you best
When there are no fears

Slide into your love, try to make it up
Slide into the one you need
Slide into yourself, slide into the fear
Slide into the ones you lost

Monkey on your back, give you what you need
Monkey see, monkey do

You were wrong for me
You set me free
And I wish we could sleep
For a thousand years
I love you best

When there are no fears
We’re up and we’re down
We’re in and we’re out
We’re close and so far

Like we don’t know where we are
We’re sinking
Slowly sinking, safe

You were wrong to me
You set me free
And I wish we could sleep
For a thousand years
I love you best

When there are no fears
We’re up and we’re down
We’re in and we’re out
We’re close and so far
Like we don’t know where we are

We’re sinking
Slowly sinking
We’re sinking
Slowly sinking

I don’t know what you see
But this TV says to me “We’re sinking”
