Table For Glasses

All the way back on their third studio album, Clarity, Jimmy Eat World gave us the atmospheric harmonies of ‘Table For Glasses’. Swapping singles to kick off their co-headline tour, Manchester Orchestra have created a version of ‘Table For Glasses’, while Jimmy Eat World have released ‘Telepath’.

Compared to the original, this version is warm and woody – glassy guitars have morphed into a soft swirl. The verse is almost a whisper, with the sound subtly growing to fill the room in a gradual build as the vocal gains more layers to create a choir of voices.

As the two-thirds moment approaches, You can feel something is about to happen. The song artfully avoids a significant dynamic shift but keeps on adding layers. Fuzzy bass tones, piano, and finally the vocal rises up to soar in a giant pilomotor reaction.

This is a stunning take on an absolutely classic song.

Table For Glasses Lyrics (Manchester Orchestra Version)

Sweep the dirty stairs
The ones I waited on
This is just for me
I felt it watching her

And it happens too fast, to make sense of it
Make it last
It happens too fast, to make sense of it
To make it last

Where do you intend,
to go with dirty dress?
Lead my skeptic sight
To the table and the light

And it happens too fast, to make sense of it
Make it last
It happens too fast, to make sense of it
To make it last

Lead my skeptic sight
Lead my skeptic sight

Not asking of me anything,
Saying nothing about what it means,
Without anybody telling me
What I should feel

What I should feel
