Foo Fighters
Show Me How

Jump to...

We’ve got the third single – ‘Show Me How’ – from Foo FightersBut Here We Are album and, well, it’s not a Foo Fighters song at all. Definitely not if you believe Foos have a genre.

I love repeating myself for no reason so I’ll just say it – the album is a blast already and we’ve only had two songs. Now three. And everything still feels absolutely alright. However…

To take a step back and maybe recap, we got the first single, “Rescued”, which I cover in the latest May Dispatch, and the second one out was  “Under You”, which our review praises a lot.

Let’s talk about the genre – is it rock or pop?

It’s pop. A very dreamy poppy pop that’s the poppiest pop you’ll ever get from the band. And, to be fair, it works. I don’t how but it does.

I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t expecting anything like this but it all makes sense.

While I don’t know what Violet’s, Dave’s daughter’s, favourite music genre is, this stuff is good. Also, as you may have already guessed, Violet is a guest and Grohl’s duet partner here.

We may, as well, classify it as rock pop (is that a thing?) or indie pop (that indeed isn’t a thing, is it?) or indie rock pop with pop just showing some signs of pop (yeah)? That’d be confusing even more.

It’s just a good and honest pop/indie/rock/pop song.

What is the meaning of Foo Fighters’ “Show Me How”?

It’s about missing a dear person but not in the way you think or have new been misled. It’s about a parent-child or father-daughter relationship, it’s about educating and supporting each other, which is covered by the chorus:

Where are you now?
Who will show me how?

Foo Fighters – “Show Me How”, chorus

We’re born inexperienced and need our parents to teach us how to survive in this world. Eventually, we turn into parents and need kids to explain the world to us.

Where have you gone?
Walk in circles back to square one
Made it through yesterday
Spilling wine, thinking of the time

Foo Fighters – “Show Me How”, verse 1

Verse 1 may be suggesting age is playing its role – is it implying Alzheimer’s? Forgetting, starting from square one because you forgot where you were, spilling wine because your hands are shaky. It all makes sense.

You watched the hummingbirds
Naming evеry one

Foo Fighters – “Show Me How”, verse 2

Kids like to name things, right?

The same verse moves on, fast-forwards to the future when the kid is an adult and has a life of their own. The parent wants to visit and see their offspring.

Do you have a minute for mе?
If you don’t mind, I’ll be stopping by

Foo Fighters – “Show Me How”, verse 2

The second verse closes by addressing the differences, past issues, mistakes and conflicts that happened along the way.

Count all the little black clouds
Don’t you worry, please don’t worry

Foo Fighters – “Show Me How”, verse 2

After all, the little black clouds always go away.

The song fades out with the daughter promising to take care of everything. Of and for her dad.

Foo Fighters – “Show Me How” Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Where have you gone?
Walk in circles back to square one
Made it through yesterday
Spilling wine, thinking of the time
Wrote you a melody
Rolling your eyes, I held your hand a while
Need not say anything to me
Hear you loud and clear, loud and clear

[Pre-Chorus]
I’ll take care of everything from now on

[Chorus]
Where are you now?
Who will show me how?
Where are you now?
Who will show me how?

[Verse 2]
Wait for the sun
Say hello, maybe it will come
You watched the hummingbirds
Naming evеry one
Do you have a minute for mе?
If you don’t mind, I’ll be stopping by
Count all the little black clouds
Don’t you worry, please don’t worry

[Pre-Chorus]
I’ll take care of everything from now on

[Chorus]
Where are you now?
Who will show me how?
Where are you now?
Who will show me how? (Who will show me how?)

[Bridge]
I’ll take care of everything
I’ll take care of everything
I’ll take care of everything from now on

[Chorus]
Where are you now?
Who will show me how?
Where are you now?
Who will show me how? (Who will show me how?)
Where are you now?
Who will show me how?
Where are you now?
Who will show me, who will show me how?

[Outro]
I’ll take care of everything
I’ll take care of everything
I’ll take care of everything
I’ll take care of everything
