Gaunt / Plan A

With a sound reminiscent of some early Echo and the Bunnymen, ‘Gaunt’ is the combination of light-pop music with sinister lyrics that was the bread and butter of The Cure’s ‘Head on the Door’ LP.

In fact, the other track on this double a-side, ‘Plan A’ is even more akin to The Cure, this time finding its roots in their earlier work.

All in all, it’s difficult to appeal to fans of The Cure by sounding like them – but that’s not a reason to avoid a healthy dark / light atmosphere inside a pop song.
