Enochian Theory
A Countermeasure in Hindsight EP

Looking back over the last year can you remember everything you listened to, read or watched? It’s probably unlikely that you can but a number of different ideas pop into your head. These are the front runners. The material that made you think or even inspired you to go out and create something yourself.

What am I getting at? Well, when listening to something for the first time it needs open up that part of your brain otherwise it may never get heard again. Especially if you’re a new band, and this is exactly what Enochian Theory are.

Before opening the case my brain has sub-consciously thrown them in to a pile of black metal bands. This maybe the image that they’re looking for but the pile is already too big. Only a handful of these bands ever manage to break away from the over crowded circuit and in recent years the main reason has been the front women, which Enochian Theory don’t have.

Only very rare moments on the demo help my brain keep listening. The first two songs blend into one and apart from sounding slightly like Tool occasionally they never seem to push themselves enough to try anything new. Everything here has been done before. But the problem is that it’s been done so many times that it’s moved into the realms of cliché. They wear black, they have long hair, and they talk about death. But what metal band doesn’t?

This demo creates no spark of imagination. If Enochian Theory want to move away from the pub scene then its time to find that little something to separate them from the crowd. Otherwise they’ll find themselves underneath others in the pile and too submerged to break away.
