Blue and green record exploding into shards

Random Hand
Change of Plan LP

It’s not often you see real ska-punk nowadays and Random Hand perfectly mash it together. Beautifully explosive for a debut album, Change of Plan is a collection of happy, pumping punk stuffed full of ska hooks and punchy riffs. Nothing’s ridiculously complicated or mature but it definitely puts a smile on your face and a skank in your step.

I’m already fashioning my hair into liberty spikes before the end of ‘Play some Ska’, and there’s no letting up on the aggressive vocal lines and angst ridden lyrics. In true fashion, no song plays without the faithful ska trumpet. Manic, but so damn catchy. By ‘Milk’ some more soulful moments emerge and they’ve managed to belt out tune after tune of catchy beats. And that trumpet can make any twisted track sound down right cheery.

Exuberant pummelling from the drums is a highlight throughout and any moments of melody are soon shredded into mayhem. ‘Danger makes enemies’ takes the eerie ska feel to an almost Madness style level and trails into some chilled out trumpet play.

It’s hard not to get caught up in this album. Stud your jacket, punch the air and start shouting along!
