Don’t You Want Me

Jump to...

Describing the single as the start of a new era, ‘Don’t You Want Me’ adds some extra punch and pace. That doesn’t stop the melody from shining, but it certainly adds bite to lyrics that have teeth.

There are subtle extras in the instrumentation. Once the guitars open things up and the beat pushes the first verse, the bass arrives along with Munstery key stabs. It’s big fuzzy strumming for the chorus, a hint of keys to splash alongside the melody, with a nice descending progression in the post-chorus.

This song can be filed in the classification of “songs you hope aren’t about you”. It eludes to those relationships where you’re always on hold until your partner gets bored and remembers you exist. As the song points out, the one other time you’re wanted is when you’re gone.

I’m loving this fuller-bodied direction. Mills’ voice gets to explore new places – and it was clearly built for this new dynamic life. From the big warm melodies to the angsty last line, the vocal tells the story with style.

Bitters have been out on tour across the UK (sorry about the weather) and if you’re quick you might still be able to catch them before they head back to LA.

Don’t You Want Me Lyrics

Little miss mess always tripping on your ego
Little obsessed did whatever if you said so
I was just happy to be part of your small world
And look at me now

Pressing my luck, waste of hope cause you never show
Little hung up always waiting by the phone
I was just happy to be that girl
And look at me now

Don’t you want me now I’m no longer around
Don’t you miss me now that you can’t let me down
Funny how much can change with perspective
Funny to see it’s only objective
Bet you want me now I’m gone
I’m gone

Took me as a kid now you’re waiting for the comeback
Tryna find the heart like a needle in a haystack
Does that turn you on? Baby tell me how’d you like that
Yeah look at now
You look so good bowing down
Gimme the crown

Don’t you want me now I’m no longer around
Don’t you miss me now that you can’t let me down
Funny how much can change with perspective
Funny to see it’s only objective
Bet you want me now I’m gone
I’m gone
I’m gone
I’m gone

You look so good bowing down
Put a smile upon that frown
How’s it feeling playing the clown?
Uh, you look so good bowing down
Put a smile upon that frown
Time to hand over the crown
Yeah look at me now
