Creeper - Cry To Heaven. A vintage looking painting featuring an angelic beauty wearing a white gown, she has dark bony wings. She is sat on a pile of skulls and surrounded by classical looking dancing girls. A foreboding castle partly hides the moon.

Cementing the eerie otherworldliness of their forthcoming album, Sanguivore, ‘Black Heaven’ remains on theme with the stylish eighties references.

The sixteen beat sets the tone, with the synth locking into every hi-hat tap. It could be a montage scene from an eighties movie except for the dark twist, which comes from deep vocals and suitably blasphemous lyrical themes.

The guitars give us a range of period features, from Steve Steven’s style rhythmic flicks to Thin Lizzy dual lead guitars and ending on a guitar line that could have come from Led Zep, accompanied by a chorus of angelic chants.

Realizing that the picture I’m painting sounds like some kind of Frankenstein’s monster of robbed parts, I must note that those who have read Shelley’s famous book will know that the monster is erudite and intelligent, though determined to have vengeance for the moral wrong done to him by Frankenstein. I can only congratulate myself on summing up this song, which is a perfect whole created from many different parts.

Creeper are shaping up an atmospheric album. It’s going to be a great success. Join the cult now before the sun rises and chases them back to the cellars and crypts that give them refuge.

Black Heaven Lyrics

Death for pleasure, live forever, give yourself to me
Bound together, hands are tethered
We exist in oceans inbetween
Through the window dreams will depart
And break your stained glass heart

Die, die for me, you said you would, you promised me
Let’s take a life, let’s agree to make our home
In black heaven

A head to sever in winter weather, give yourself to me
Apply the pressure, consume the flesh
And fire-walk across all time with me
You love a spectre, a handsome mentor, who’s barely there at all

Die, die for me, you said you would, you promised me
Let’s take a life, let’s agree to make our home
In black heaven

All hail the original sinner
Black heaven, black heaven
Hail Mary and the Holy Ghost
Black heaven, black heaven
God’s kingdom will come crashing down
Black heaven, black heaven
All embrace annihilation
Black heaven, black heaven
(Eyes wide shut and chained up to the dark
Un-take my life, unbreak my stained glass heart…)

All hail the original sinner
Black heaven, black heaven
Hail Mary and the Holy Ghost
Black heaven, black heaven
God’s kingdom will come crashing down
Black heaven, black heaven
All embrace annihilation
Black heaven, black heaven
(Eyes wide shut and chained up to the dark
Un-take my life, unbreak my stained glass heart)
(Eyes wide shut and chained up to the dark
Un-take my life, unbreak my stained glass heart…)
