It Is What It Is

The good news is that the album lands next week, in the meantime, Rachel Chinouriri has given us one last preview with ‘It Is What It Is’.

The verse is a wonderful smooth chat with Rachel, a monologue on a relationship that develops into a sweetly sung chorus that still stings. Everything from the beat to the vocal rhythm, to the little guitar hooks are perfect and the song has a cool bounce.

I love how the songs on this album are deep, but unafraid to sparkle. This song could have been bitter, but actually, it’s as much about taking back your power and energy as it is about lacklustre lovers.

Well, I was definitely in a petty mood. It’s interesting because humans are full of flaws and I have the privilege of going through therapy, which has massively helped me with my self-development journey. However, there are those moments where you want to be so petty because someone’s done you wrong.

I’ve learned I’m responsible for how I allow men to treat me because they feel I’m worthless enough to be treated that way and it’s a big F U to them as I’ve not discovered how much I deserve. I just feel annoyed I never got to say what I wanted and that’s fine… I have this song instead and it is what it is 🙂

The singles for What A Devastating Turn of Events have all been stunners. I cannot wait for this album. Six more days to go.

It Is What It Is Lyrics

(Is he okay? Like is he actually okay?
No. No. No.
Rachel!)

Well, it was nice to see you again…
I know you won’t text or anything
I know what you’re like
Hot and cold
Hit and miss
Up and down and bit of a prick really
I could argue that you’re nice, well actually you’re kind of my type but you are taking the piss…
Why did you kiss me then call me then say that you miss me then you talk about chemistry??
What the fuck does that mean?
Honestly like… what the fuck?
Your friends tell me you like me and I like you but not like that but maybe I do?
It’s really up to you… like seriously that’s on you bro
And maybe you’re the problem actually

Coz you don’t know whether you’re in or you’re out
You should’ve told me you had doubts about it
All that shit that came out your mouth
It is what it is, what it is, is a problem…

And
(No. No. No. Leave that boy alone)
And
And

And you’re gonna act like it’s not a problem, and that is the problem.
Yeah you’re cool with this but
this is not cool with me… It’s confusing
Yeah mad confusing
We’ve got a lot of risky text and you’ve asked if I left my ex
Well… yes… it was complex
How’s you and your ex?
Nah I’m just taking the piss, I’ve got nothing to do with it but maybe I did?
And what if I called you and asked you to kiss me, then text you and asked if you missed me and
aired you after you’d seen me… then spoke about compatibility?
Yeah you’re just confusing as fuck and I wish I never tried my luck

Don’t know whether you’re in or you’re out
You should’ve told me you had doubts about it
All that shit that came out your mouth
It is what it is, what it is is a problem
Don’t know whether you’re in or you’re out
You should’ve told me you had doubts about it
All that shit that came out your mouth
It is what it is, what it is is a problem

Is what it is oh oh
Is what it is… it’s a problem

(Look, just like let me know what he says
But I would not have that and just,
but just know that you’re a lot better than that
And he does not fucking deserve you
And he never did deserve you
Rachel, I’m mad)
