Spotting a new release from Die So Fluid is always a delightful surprise, and ‘Sharpen Your Sword’ is equal to the task. Sit back and enjoy the metal-edged post-punk.

After a brief radio-frequency accompanied intro, the song chugs along into the first verse. The music paints a dark smouldering picture that bursts into a big soaring chorus with. The vocal is melodic, matching the mood of the dark verse and bright chorus.

I enjoyed the thematic twist in the first chorus, switching down the mood for the last two lines by changing the lead guitar line and muting down the melody. This certainly make your ears prick up, which is always a neat way of introducing a little surprise.

No news of an album at this stage… but head to their Bandcamp page to show some support and maybe we can make it happen!

Sharpen Your Sword Lyrics

Oh, Saturn treat me kindly
I recognize these old themes come to teach me
All you slaves of darkness, get behind me
From now on my truth will be my victory

All your old scores
will rise again til you learn their lessons
Sharpen your sword
At the break of day, we choose our weapons
All your old scores…
Go through the fire and come out gold

I know these shadows find me
As harbingers of opportunity
From this vantage point, I see it clearly
Pick your strategy for battle wisely

All your old scores
will rise again til you learn their lessons
Sharpen your sword
Master your mind
let that be your weapon
It’s what you’re here for
to realise your regal nature
Universal law
Close your eyes, remember

All your old scores
Go through the fire and come out gold
Sharpen your sword
Identify what you can’t control
It’s what you’re here for
Remember now what you’ve always known
Universal law
Sweep the ashes from the soul
It’s what you’re here for
Remember now what you’ve always known
Universal law
Sweep aside the ashes
Reveal the soul
