Harker - I Ruin Everything

I Ruin Everything

Harker’s new single, ‘I Ruin Everything’ is a big-sounding blast of polished punk. It conjures some of the greats, like The Clash and Stiff Little Fingers, bringing a modern tightness and production to the epic sound.

The song sticks faithfully to the theme of the title. Every line is dedicated to self-destructive behavior and this theme is delivered with big guitars that fuzz, riff, and chug the chords while the bass punches alongside the drums.

The big solo brings solid tom hopping from the drums, giving plenty of space for the guitar to smolder for a whole load of bars, leaving space for a big chorus and a decomposition ending.

I wrote this song about a year prior to my positive diagnosis of ADHD, and was at an extreme peak of mental breakdown – Not knowing the reasons why and how I react in difficult situations. When you’re really down there it’s easy to let paranoia take hold of you, and I think this track is an outpouring of how I felt towards myself and others at the time. A kneejerk reaction to all those feelings of loneliness, frustration and failure.

The Sam Luck video puts a humorous spin on the theme with a raging table-tennis tournament, complete with arcade power ups.

You can catch Harker on their UK South Coast stomping ground, or in Florida where they’re booked on two festivals, including Foreign Dissent, where they’ll join Descartes A Kant. Check their site for tour dates.

I Ruin Everything Lyrics

Hurricane is coming to you,
Coming to kick your door in screaming,
I ruin everything,

A careless unkind gesture,
Ready to take your present from you,
I ruin everything,

The earth quelled but I couldn’t feel it,
Every pulse on the floor is wrong,
Crash down and hitting disaster now,

I doused your clothes in petrol,
I ruin everything,
Threw your shit out the window,
I ruin everything,
Because my meds told me to do so,
I ruin everything,

My arm breaks but I cannot feel it,
Adrenaline cutting through what’s wrong,
Cool down and bring disaster on,

I crept inside your headspace,
I ruin everything,
Spat germs at all your best friends,
I ruin everything,
Broke all your close relations,
I ruin everything,
Count me out of life until deaths door,
Because I ruin everything
