Harker - Lights Go Out

Lights Go Out

Harker keep delivering superb high-quality rock tracks, and ‘Lights Go Out’ is no exception. This time around, there’s a stomping element with a hint of The Clash that grabs my interest and pulls me straight in.

The song starts with a choppy rhythmic affair, the bass drum and guitars all locking in. The first verse is pumped with this rhythm, with a touch of additional interest when the second guitar adds a straight beat across the top.

The song has a great pre-chorus, the ‘ninety-six can you listen in’ line drags you up towards the driving rock of the chorus. After the second time around, we hit a tornado of chorus variations that swirl with intensity. Despite throwing everything at this latter section, with interludes and a whirlpool of a crescendo, it remains melodic and hooky.

With such an epic composition, I hope you’ll forgive any transcription errors in the lyrics. What a track.

‘Lights Go Out’ is Harker’s last single of 2023, but what a way to sign off on a great run of releases!

Lights Go Out Lyrics

Watch them light up on the blacktop
Let them feast upon your grave
A little hard to resuscitate
With your bad luck in the way

And when my hold it started shaking
Holding on by your neck
You got it wrapped up shove it out throw it around
Headed crushing by the wave

Ninety-six can you listen in
There’s just no stopping it
Come on

Lights go out
I know we’re gonna make a sound
Holding on to a common ground
Lights go out

Incinerate from the record
Have them wash it away
But your hands won’t clean or cover up all the stains
Watch your words they became

So watch them light up on the blacktop
See them feast upon your grave
Strip the bones from your skin let the one settle in
You’ll be begging to end

Ninety-six are you hearing this
There’s just no stopping it
When the

Lights go out
I know we’re gonna make a sound
Holding on to a common ground
Lights go out

Over and tickets gone there’s a carry on
Of the place that shines when the lights go out
Lights go out

Lights go out
I know we’re gonna make a sound
Holding on to a common ground
Lights go out

Over and tickets gone there’s a carry on
Of the place that shines under everything
Crawling into skin
Call to every being when the lights go out
