Ben Dlugokecki
Live / Record Signing

It’s not often you turn up at 6pm and squeeze yourself between shelves full of DVDs to watch a band, but for a special occasion you don’t mind hanging out with the likes of ‘Time Bandits’, or ‘A Life Less Ordinary’ (both selling at £5 by the way), and the Mayor of Southampton, who is present to witness the event. This really was a bit special.

However, tonight needed no dignitaries or officials to be special, as Ben Dlugokecki was signing his record deal with AND Records and playing a brief acoustic set to celebrate. The sparse set-up in the corner of the store was a perfect opportunity to really hear what Ben’s voice can do and the song selection, while small, was a perfectly formed combination of new tracks and solid favourites, such as ‘Set in Stone’.

We grabbed Ben for a couple of minutes after the show for a quick probe:

It’s been quite emotional, it’s strange talking to people with the album playing in the background – I can hear myself twice.

With the recording contract all signed, Ben’s new album is set for release in July or August this year.
