With a whopping sixteen stunners gathered together in one album, this live recording gives us an authentic Dlugokecki experience. Ben’s vocal is, no doubt, an instantly recognisable signature. It’s a folksy Paul Simon meets Damien Rice, hits every note, and packs emotion into each line. Backed by such a talented band, it’s kinda hard to […]

On the 19th July 2008, we took over legendary Southampton music venue, The Talking Heads, for the second time and delivered an award show that recognised the amazing unsigned and independent talent we had discovered over the previous twelve months. Billed under our name at the time, The Mag, and sponsored by Original 106 FM […]
10 Years Of Dlugokecki is a collection that reminds us just how many ace songs this band have gifted to us over the past decade. To be precise, there are seventeen songs on the a-side of this record and a further seventeen songs on the appended collection of rarities. It doesn’t take long to find […]
It may be hard to believe, but we’ve not had a Dlugokecki recording in our post bag since June 2007. That’s not to say that Dlugokecki hasn’t been busy organising and playing shows and recording songs and – happily – a mini-album has appeared with seven sweet songs and a proper-nice booklet inside with lyrics […]
Tired of seeing quality music remaining hidden in plain sight, The Showcase Sett is a compilation of music from bands and artists that have featured on Xan Philips’ Showcase show on Original 106 FM. There’s a broad selection of songs on offer here, so let’s get to it! Jazica make the strongest possible start to […]
Having taken the South By South West festival by storm as part of their most recent assault towards world domination, Southampton heroes Dlugokecki made a more than welcome return to home shores with a relaxed acoustic set at The Railway Inn. Mod upstarts The Queue got the evening off to a raucous start with an […]
An awesome night of music took place Saturday night at The Talking Heads in Southampton and we announced the winners of The Mag Awards 2008. As we’ve covered over two-thousand bands and artists, all of the winners had a lot of work to do to get noticed by our readers. So, here is a transcript […]
In our mini-series of catch-ups with the bands playing The Mag Awards, we managed to get hold of Ben Dlugokecki to ask a few questions. Dlugokecki played at last year’s Mag Awards, now you know what to expect are you more prepared? We really enjoyed The Mag Awards last year – and winning the two […]

You’ll have to wait for the awards show on 19th July 2008 at The Talking Heads in Southampton to find out who they are! Saturday July 19th 2008 at The Talking Heads, SouthamptonOriginal 106fm presents The Mag Awards Show […]
When you attend a live performance several hundred feet above the ground in a glass fronted tower, you can’t help but feel that this type of gig doesn’t happen very often. On this occasion though, the Spinnaker Tower show follows on from performances on the Mersey ferry, Blackpool Tower and Stonehenge and the next gig […]
With no shortlist, nominations, or judges’ decisions, The Mag Awards’ winners were a truly public selection. The Talking Heads in Southampton was the host for live performances from three of the winners as well as some on-the-knuckle comedy from Toupe front-man Grant Sharkey. Both Kat Vipers (London) and Mary (Denmark) made the trip to Southampton […]

Dlugokecki has been hard at work since putting pen to paper on the AND Records deal with the new album already having a name and several songs to offer. ‘How Do You Do’ is the title track, tapping into an up- beat epic pop sound that could even put a smile on Dido’s chops. In […]
It’s not often you turn up at 6pm and squeeze yourself between shelves full of DVDs to watch a band, but for a special occasion you don’t mind hanging out with the likes of ‘Time Bandits’, or ‘A Life Less Ordinary’ (both selling at £5 by the way), and the Mayor of Southampton, who is […]
If you could do me one big favour and pause for an inordinately long time each time you find a full stop, I’ll begin. The votes are in and they’ve been counted and re-counted. It’s time to announce the winners, the readers choice, the peoples’ champions. It’s time to tell you who won The Mag’s […]
You don’t get to support Snow Patrol without good reason, and there are plenty of good reasons why Ben Dlugokecki got the job ( although it’s not a decision completely without risk for the headliners themselves!) At times delicately constructed and at others cascading with instrumentation, ‘Before The Storm’ is a collection of Dlugokecki’s studio […]
After the momentary distraction caused by the transparency of the CD (which I now believe is a quality shared by almost all CD’s if you hold them up to a bright enough light) Dlogokecki’s ‘Clog Up the System’ is filling the air with cosy tones and classy vocals. A melancholic undertone directs the feel of […]
Compilations. They typically contain somewhere in the region of twenty tracks and each song is usually worth a mention. Great news for music lovers but, not so good for those of us that need to write about them. If it was twenty tracks from the same band, you would be able to picture the flowing […]
First onto the stage to face the family-thronged Talking Heads crowd was Secluded. Disconcertingly familiar, this three-piece sound like the love child of Nirvana and Placebo, though it’s a love child that has been taught some manners. They’re pleasing to the ear, but fail to excite as originality is somewhat sacrificed in favour of playing […]
The first thing you’ll notice about Ben Dlugokecki is his incredible vocal; aching with emotion at times and reaching for epic heights at others. ‘Set in Stone’ is the first of a double a-side and sets a precedent of quality musicianship alongside the outstanding vocal. The style is a relaxed mix of indie and country […]
