Whole Sky Monitor
I Love HC

I’m a sucker for ace rhythms. Rival School’s ‘Used For Glue’, and Bushbaby’s ‘Ghost’ are the top of the tree in terms of hitting the spot with a nifty groove and Whole Sky Monitor equal these tracks with the jagged, choppy guitars in ‘Harehills Chapeltown’ (of HC fame – keep up!)

There’s a great bit of bottle-tapping percussion too, right out of the Pet Shop Boys take on ‘You Are Always On My Mind’, but applied a la rock.

On top of a great sound, Whole Sky Monitor also fit genuinely into the social-commentary buzz-category, where many other bands make claims, but fail. It’s a very local take on the theme, but the passion and anti-passion of their feelings for their home town make for an excellent gritty reality to the song.

‘Mary Moses’ and ‘Just Let Me Talk To Her’ complete the single with not a bad moment between them.

It’s like a modern-day take on The Popes, without so much tomfoolery.
