The Pocket Gods
Interview

So, are The Pocket Gods serious or fun?

We take having fun seriously, it is a priority in all that we do!

How have you changed over the last year?

Two new permanent members joined the band; Nigel on drums and Claire on bass. So now we do things like rehearsing and stuff!

Also we got a bit more famous, being played on Radio 1 again, doing more London gigs and being invited to play at ‘In The City’, which is an extreme honour as it is Tony Wilsons’ baby and we bow down to him.

Why has Christmas started so early for the band?

We were asked by Cherryade if we’d like to make a donation to their christmas album again this year, so we got our heads together and bashed out this tune. It’s about eschewing the mad, capitalist, over-the-top excess that is Christmas, and instead being at one with yourself… kind of. I don’t know how or why it is on myspace already! Shameless, aren’t we!

So you’ll be having another Very Cherry Christmas this year?

Yes! Tis such an honour being asked as Cherryade are such a great indie label with the Bobby Mghees and Steveless on them. They’re also run by really nice peeps Rachael and Adam who are not “in it for the money” but to satify our delusions of grandeaur… erm sorry love of music!

How did you get the radio coverage?

Years of tireless effort from our leader Captain Markie, who believes in the Pocket Gods’ and the worlds right to hear our music. Nurturing contacts, working very hard!! Also the fact that John Peel discovered us shortly before he sadly died also opened a few doors for us at Radio 1 it is hard though not being on a major label and without a plugger behind you

What’s next for The Pocket Gods?

Time for a snack I think… and after that more drunken weekends, more songs, more gigs and dreams of a big house in the country!
