With this latest release, Willow takes us on a floaty journey with a sliding bass line as each verse communicates a sense of confusion. It’s superbly put together and highly complex, which as anyone knows, is how you make a chorus crack.

And crack it does, in contrast with the scatter of the song, the chorus punches right through.

What’s really important about this track is how it uses the structure to share the feeling. It’s not a case of having to pour over the lyrics to understand the song; you kinda feel it through the music. The song is about a failed relationship and its marinaded in regret.

This track might not be powering through the emo-punk vibes, but it’s sophisticated, and it has a rocking chorus. Just the kind of ballad you’d expect from Willow! Stay tuned for more on <COPINGMECHANISM> soon!

Split Lyrics

Fell asleep when you drove me home
Got too faded and raged
You had nothing to say when I split
Tried to call you, you don’t answer your phone
You’re the only, only, only

I guess I was wrong to assume
Inside I knew I hadn’t decided
So I tried to hide it

You’re the only, only, only
I guess I was wrong to assume
Inside I knew I hadn’t decided
So I tried to hide it

We never talk a lot
I need to see you ‘cause you’re on my mind
And say, “I never wanted,
I never wanted this for us”

I’m always acting tough
Close my heart and now I starve the love
And no, I never wanted,
I never wanted this for us

Pour patience over me
While my heart slowly breaks
Never makin’ a sound
Even amongst the jagged pieces

That always lead to the ground
To move is agony
And now I can only think about how

We never talk a lot
I need to see you ‘cause you’re on my mind
And say “I never wanted,
I never wanted this for us”

I’m always acting tough
Close my heart and now I starve the love
And no, I never wanted,
I never wanted this for us

No, I never No, I never

We never talk a lot
I need to see you ‘cause you’re on my mind
And say “I never wanted,
I never wanted this for us”

I’m always acting tough
Close my heart and now I starve the love
And no, I never wanted,
I never wanted this for us
