Magnolia Park
Homicide
Magnolia Park gift us a stomper in the form of ‘Homicide’, a tribute to community and giving back to the people who got you where you are. Fans can modest wave, blush, and hit play.
Piano and vocal set the scene, then the song kicks in with palm-muted emo feels. It’s a dive into a pre-chours that gets a build into a massive half-beat chorus. Structurally, this song brings it all and the sound is perfect. When the time is right, we get a full-beat chorus. It’s anthemic no matter how they drive the beat.
The chorus is used as a middle eight, with extra atmospheric keys and a cut back to piano and vocal. A stomp re-introduces a beat in what I imagine could be a big audience moment in a live setting. The chorus and reprise follows and then the last note echoes into the night.
Magnolia Park are no doubt masters of this style. Their ability to whip up anthems seems to spring forth from a unlimited source. That’s great as we can’t get enough.

Homicide Lyrics
Scream out loud if you feel alive
Wasted love, I’ve been up all night
Sober up, put your head on ice
It’s a homicideEvery night you’re walking
Closer to the edge of the road
2 AM I’m wondering
If you should be all on your ownYou can carry your throne, carry your throne
But you never have to be aloneScream out loud if you feel alive
Wasted love, I’ve been up all night
Sober up, put your head on ice
It’s a homicideIn the dark, in the dark we tether
Take me to your hideaway
We took the train, took the train together
Just so we could get awayYou can carry your throne, carry your throne
But you never have to be aloneScream out loud if you feel alive
Wasted love, I’ve been up all night
Sober up, put your head on ice
It’s a homicideYou can carry your throne, carry your throne
But you never have to be aloneScream out loud if you feel alive
Wasted love, I’ve been up all night
Sober up, put your head on ice
It’s a homicideScream out loud if you feel alive
If you feel alive
Sober up, put your head on ice
It’s a homicide
