Magnolia Park
Breathing

Jump to...

Magnolia Park have a pair of EPs titled Mooneater and Souleater coming soon and ‘Breathing’ is our first taste of the first of these. The two releases will provide a glimpse into the two sides of the band, the metalcore Mooneater and the more pop/punk Souleater supplying two different moods.

With ‘Breathing’ the atmosphere is immense. The rich wall of sound and slamming beat are epic. Vocals switch between Joshua and nothing, nowhere, with extra richness when they combine. The verse stretches out, supplying neat variations and holding the volume back to ensure the chorus lands hard every time.

The half-time beat for the chorus makes it sound really big. If you listen a few times, you can pick out lots of different parts making up that giant wave of sound. The detail is pleasing indeed.

The song talks about anxiety and panic attacks, hence the ‘I can’t keep breathing’ line that opens each chorus. The lyrics artistically render those feelings:

Our music is always about creating empowerment out of negative feelings. In the same way, ‘Breathing’ takes that feeling of crushing anxiety and panic attacks and converts it into pure power and energy.

This is a big tune… check it out!

Breathing Lyrics

I can’t keep breathing
Woah
My world is sinking
You’re leaving me out to dry

Do you ever feel alone?
Like the sky could come crashing down anytime now
Like a tight grip on your throat
You’re lost and wandering
Flying on broken wings

Feel your words like ice in my head
I can’t rest it’s silence I dread
Feelings crushing burning my chest
Think it’s enough, it’s enough I’ve bled

I can’t keep breathing
Woah
My world is sinking
You’re leaving me out to dry
Cause I don’t wanna go back go back
I don’t wanna know that know that
I can’t keep breathing
Find me where the angels cry

This is a trauma in the making
And not even god can save me
Hide my bodies in the basement
And now all my demons chase chase chase chase me

Feel your words like ice in my head
I can’t rest it’s silence I dread
Feelings crushing burning my chest
Think it’s enough, it’s enough I’ve bled

I can’t keep breathing
Woah
My world is sinking
You’re leaving me out to dry
Cause I don’t wanna go back go back
I don’t wanna know that know that
I can’t keep breathing
Find me where the angels cry

And I feel so disconnected
From the ones who that said they cared the most
You don’t
Need to pretend anymore
Watch me bleed on the pavement
Let me die don’t you save me
And my sky was the ceiling
And it broke, and it broke, don’t you see it

I can’t keep breathing
Woah
My world is sinking
(Find me where the angels cry)

I can’t keep breathing
Woah
my world is sinking
You’re leaving me out to dry
Cause I don’t wanna go back go back
I don’t wanna know that know that
I can’t keep breathing
Find me where the angels cry
