I know you’re going to be excited but calm yourselves. The album isn’t coming until September. However, Ash have given us the gift of the up-tempo ‘Race The Night’.

The song bursts into life and we’re in a crispy verse before you can say “great Scott” (yes, that’s a DeLorean on the cover art, Belfast’s finest under-powered sports car dream). This is all set to be an Ash classic.

This is soon proved after the first two verses as the pre-chorus is delightful, with the chorus delivering something that harks back to some of their finest, with its mid-chorus tweak. It’s clever stuff and they never really get enough credit for how creative they are.

The video sees the band being held hostage by actress Riley, who seems responsible for forcing Ash back into action on this occasion. Playing the part of an obsessive fan, complete with ‘Burn Baby Burn’ tee and candle-lit Ash shrine, she has the power trio chained up, threatens them with various sharp implements, and forces them to record a song.

Not only will Ash fans love this, folks that like being blindfolded by exotic dancers are likely to add the video to their playlists, too.

Watch Ash – ‘Race The Night’.

Race The Night Lyrics

Midnight comes I miss that girl already
Always enigmatic, ever so unsteady
Playing it shy
Who’s the lucky guy
Waiting for their heart to melt?

Eyes of mercury. Whisper stormy weather
On the Riviera we’ll get lost together
I am aiming high
I’m not scared to try
See how the cards are dealt

So open up your heart and take a guess
The only real answer right now is yes
Tell me that I’m right
Don’t run into the night
We are two of a kind

Race the night
And I will follow
Before first light
While there is time
Before the shadows let us go
And it’s too late
To race the night (race the night)

Not long past you were last a stranger
One fatal glance put our hearts in danger
What you got to hide?
Who’s your alibi?
How come our stars aligned?

Baby it’s too late now we’re in deep trouble
At this hour we know the price is double
What you got to lose?
Now’s the time to choose
If you want to be mine

Race the night
And I will follow
Before first light
While there is time
Before the shadows let us go
And it’s too late
To race the night

Race the night
Race the night

Race the night
And I will follow
Before first light
While there is time
Before the shadows let us go
And it’s too late
To race the night (race the night)

Race the night (race the night)
Race the night (oh oh-oh oh oh-oh the night)
