Remember All The Girls

The Sherlocks return with a single that has an emotive nostalgia in the lyrics that is artfully reflected in the music. The opening has a distant jangle, the first verse holding back and setting the scene.

The lead guitar emerges during this verse, upping the feels just before the chorus pops right out. After the kick-in, the song is sonically rich with the strings that feature prominently at the start becoming a soundbed for the fuzzy guitar lines.

The song is about things changing and captures the emotions you feel when you look back at past times. In this case, it specifically traps that moment of great change when you feel your most vulnerable (and are surrounded by people who are least able to empathise, despite going through the same thing).

Everybody seems to judge each other at that age. It’s only when you get older you realise ‘why did I care so much?

This song has flickers of Delays and Sea Girls to create an atmospheric indie heartache. It’s melodic, full of creative ideas, and utterly listenable. I love it.

Remember All The Girls Lyrics

Remember all the girls who used to live inside a world
On the back row of the classrooms at school
They talked like they were twenty-five
They knew all that there was to life
While I’m sat wishing I knew more

Where will I be when this is over?
How will I feel looking back over my shoulder?
If you see me, will you remember me?
Or will I be another face in the crowd?

Don’t believe what they’re saying
Everything is gonna change
How could it ever be the same?
It’s just a cliché fading
Till we go our separate ways

Remember all the boys turning up in Henri Lloyd
While Helly Hansen had a day off from school
Well, that was then and this is now
And I’m proud to say I made it out
Without a pair of Rockports dragging me down

Now I feel it, yeah, this is over
Whatever will be, I guess we’re all just getting older
Are you living the dream and forgetting your problems?
‘Cause you’re gonna be another face in the crowd

Don’t believe what they’re saying
Everything is gonna change
How could it ever be the same?
It’s just a cliché fading
Till we go our separate ways
Everything is gonna change

All of your dreams and all of your problems
What did they mean?
And did you ever get to solve one?
Just give me a reason ’cause everything’s changing
So maybe it’s me and I don’t know how

Don’t believe what they’re saying
Everything is gonna change
How could it ever be the same?
It’s just a cliché waiting
Till we go our separate ways
Everything is gonna change
Everything is gonna change
How could it ever stay the same?
When we go our separate ways
Everything is gonna change
