Sirens

The Sherlocks have three UK top 20 albums in the bag and I predict a fourth is on the way in the form of People Like You & Me. Their latest single, ‘Sirens’, is taken from the new album, which is coming on the 4th of August.

The guitar sets the pace, with the drums joining in for a couple of bars before it becomes a rich and full indie rock track. There’s some particularly nice bass that creates texture between each line of the verse. We’re quickly into a pre-chorus with a momentary breakdown, and then the big chorus hits.

The big choral punch of ‘there’s no way back, no retreat, no surrender’ becomes its own reprise as the track ‘No Retreat, No Surrender’, which is like a solo section and alternative chorus treatment. It’s a neat move that certainly makes you pay attention.

This is a fine song, but bear in mind it’s going to be on the same record as the fine Manics-like ‘Don’t Let It Out’ and the swirling title track ‘People Like Me & You’. This album is going to be amazing!

Sirens Lyrics

I hear the sirens call
The maniacs are refusing to fall down
God only knows how it feels
To live inside this hole puts the fear in my eyes

So, let’s take it down
You’re not ready for this
You’re not ready for this
You’re not ready for this
You’re not ready at all
And I wanna see you fall
Cos it sometimes feels like you

You only get in my way
I’m going out in style
Win or lose this time
Yeah, there’s no way back for me
Yeah, maybe the time ain’t right
But I’m getting out alive
Cos there’s no way back, no retreat, no surrender!

The guy with a northern soul
Lives in the window with this old heart of mine
Shake down the walls till they fall
Get outta the picture
We’re not invincible

So, let’s take it down
You’re not ready for this
You’re not ready for this
You’re not ready for this
You’re not ready at all
And I wanna see you fall
Cos it sometimes feels like you

You only get in my way
I’m going out in style
Win or lose this time
Yeah, there’s no way back for me
Yeah, maybe the time ain’t right
But I’m getting out alive
Cos there’s no way back, no retreat, no surrender!
