Weekends and Workdays

Jump to...

The latest release from Sea Girls is really rather brilliant. ‘Weekends and Workdays’ definitely has their signature with the verse flourish of ‘keep your head up’ and a chorus that can knock things over.

The first verse is all crispy, thickening up like a good soup as it heads to the first chorus, which is such a clear anthem with its neat switch to a G on the third line to pump up the feels. Enhancing things still further, the bridge injects a building detour that brings things to another explosive chorus.

‘Weekends and Workdays’ is currently described as a non-album single – as was ‘Falling Apart’. One can only hope there’s another ten or so of these and that a third album is underway.

The video was filmed in Margate, on the streets, beach, sea, and the Walpole Bay Hotel. Kudos to whoever created the props in the video, which required termination notices, fake cash, and a Sea Girls newspaper with its Weekends & Workdays Banned in Shock Move headline, which zips past in under a second.

Weekends and Workdays Lyrics

There’s all different kind of fucked up fun
Some use a pen, some use a gun
But keep your head up
Nuclear war, nuclear love
Sending your favour from the above
But keep your head up
You better keep your head up

She said, “Wait, don’t let yourself break”
She said, “Mate, weekends and workdays”
She said, “Mate, don’t let yourself fade away
What’s got you acting this way?”

Rack up a line, smoke up a blunt
One, two, three, four, five to this song
Yeah, keep your head up
Come on, top up your body, top up your tan
Make the front page with OnlyFans
(You better) Better keep your head up
(Yeah, keep your head up)

She said, “Wait, don’t let yourself break”
She said, “Mate, weekends and workdays”
She said, “Mate, don’t let yourself fade away
What’s got you acting this way?”

With a two-year old in a broken pram
She lost nine grand to an online scam
Yeah, keep your head up
Move from the past, we’re out with the boys
Whatever she says, it’s her fucking choice
Yeah, keep your head up
You better keep your head up

She said, “Wait, don’t let yourself break”
She said, “Mate, weekends and workdays”
She said, “Mate, don’t let yourself fade away
What’s got you acting this way?”

He needs to talk (Better keep your head up)
He needs to walk (Better keep your head up)
She needs a meal (Better keep your head up)
She needs a bag (Better keep your head up)
I need change (Better keep your head up)
I’m on the edge (Better keep your head up)
I’m fucking wet (Better keep your head up)
Last cigarette (Better keep your head up)
