Give It Up

Jump to...

‘Wait a minute,’ you might say. ‘This track wasn’t on Past // Present // Future‘ when it came out a little while back… what gives?’ Well calm yourselves and I’ll explain. ‘Give It Up’ didn’t make the LP, but there’s a deluxe edition coming with four extra tracks.

Not unlike Bush, whose deluxe edition of The Art Of Survival stunned us with tracks that didn’t get on the initial release, ‘Give It Up’ is a fine track indeed. The baritone strumming from the bass guitar is a great platform for the guitar riffs and the song has that tight switching sound that MMATA are famous for.

The verse is bright and pacey, the lyrics adding a rhythm to the flow. It switches around for the chorus with punchy instrumentation countered by a flowing vocal melody. There’s a nice half-bit switch here, too. The middle eight is brief but provides a nice interlude before the final chorus.

This is a great track. MMATA fans are gonna lap it up.

Give It Up Lyrics

Goes to show
Every time I link I know
I’ve always run and it’s been so long
Since I’ve known where to go

But you always look the other way

I know you got answers
So pass them right on out
You see me standing here
Drowning in all my tears
Seems like it gets harder
And harder every day
Why can’t you help me out?
Give it up, give it up
Give it up
Give it up

Until now
You never wanna call around
You’ve made up your mind, is it real this time?
‘Cause I’ve had enough

Yeah I’ve had enough so give it up

I know you got answers
So pass thеm right on out
You see me standing here
Drowning in all my tеars
Seems like it gets harder
And harder every day
Why can’t you help me out?
Give it up, give it up
Give it up
Give it up

Every day when I wake up
I’m hoping for the best
I don’t know if I’ll find my way
‘Cause I got nothing left

Give it
Give it, give it
Give it, give it up

I know you got answers
So pass them right on out
You see me standing here
Drowning in all my tears
Seems like it gets harder
And harder every day
Why can’t you help me out?
Give it up, give it up
Give it
