There’s magical woody tone in the latest release from Cliffords. ‘Dungarvan Bay’ joins recent single ‘Bittersweet’ on EP Salt of the Lee and this song brings a heartfelt folk flavour that builds and builds.

From the sparse but warm acoustic beginning, it’s almost a trick how the instruments are suddenly all present. They kinda sneak in with gentle waves and before you know it there’s a big emotional intensity going on. It reminds me of Brandi Carlisle’s ‘The Story’ in many ways, except it’s all rise and no fall.

Joining the two singles on the EP are the swaying ‘R&H Hall’ with it’s pushed beat and the big slow feels of ‘My Favourite Monster’.

Cliffords are something special and the single and the EP are welcome releases.

Dungarvan Bay Lyrics

There is a light in Dungarvan bay
Never goes out and it never fades
If the earth could stop spinning I’d gather my thoughts imagine life without you in it
If the earth could give me a minute I’d smile and thank god you were in it

Not sure if I’m living at all
Not how you could before it all went wrong
I’ll search for the pockets of you
Bless the orange sky you got quite the view

Time moves on it’s two years now
Alex moved to Edinburgh and I stayed south I still picture you dancing when im out
Take it day by day
What’s that all about

Not sure if I’m living at all
Not how you could before it all went wrong
I’ll search for the pockets of you
Bless the orange sky you got quite the view
