Martyn J Collins - Freedom

Martyn J Collins
Freedom

With bluesy undercurrents and a soulful funk rhythm, ‘Freedom’ is the latest single from Southampton songwriter, Martyn J Collins.

The beat is simple enough, providing ample opportunity for the guitars to add flair with muted rhythm, wah-wah chucking, and a sliding lead guitar. Lyrically, things have an autobiographical tone with verses providing variations on a theme and chorus about breaking out from a metaphorical hole.

I’m wasting all my time
I’ve been wasting all my love
Scared of what I’m born to be
So I keep it all inside

The song is layered, there’s a lot of interesting guitar work for a song that has pop sensibilities. It reminds me of Polly Harvey in many ways.
