HotWax - Invite Me Kindly

HotWax
High Tea

Jump to...

HotWax kick off with an edge of funkiness in ‘High Tea’, a stomping lo-fi rock track with a tremendous sound. In fact, I’m not fully confident in the lo-fi label here! Sure, it buzzes and fries, but it’s tight and punchy.

The bass sets the scene with a brief solo run, to which the rest of the band locks in. The first verse slides straight in and we very quickly hit the first fuzzy chorus, which has anthemic hooks in the refrain ‘spitting out all of my doubt, I’m spitting’.

The middle eight is slow and moody, building up a few times to make you think the chorus is coming, but holding off all the way through a drum-solo section before letting you get the goods. Nicely played HotWax.

I love every track this band releases. They have such a good sense of their own sound, and the chops to pull it off.

High Tea Lyrics

Invite me, kindly ‘coz if one is enough can’t hide the other with the sun
Tonight she defied me put on a public smile eyes target like a laser gun

So I’m spitting out all of my doubt
Spitting out all of my doubt, I’m spitting
Spitting out all of my doubt
Spitting out all of my doubt, I’m spitting

We’ve seen our hours oh yeah we’ve seen our hours
So green so sour
‘Coz if one is enough can’t hide the other with the sun

So I’m spitting out all of my doubt
Spitting out all of my doubt, I’m spitting
Spitting out all of my doubt
Spitting out all of my doubt, I’m spitting

In my imagination the flame would go out
And in our conversation you’d always spit it out
Greedy lover runs hot and cold
Strange night foolish things that would keep a tight hold
At least it would give me inspiration that I could shout about
Take me to high tea and I will make you proud

So I’m spitting out all of my doubt
Spitting out all of my doubt, I’m spitting
Spitting out all of my doubt
If it’s not golden you’ll see, I’m spitting
So i’m spitting out all of my doubt
Spitting out all of my doubt, I’m spitting
And i’m spitting out all of my doubt
If it’s not golden you’ll see, I’m spitting
