Kat Vipers
Hot Air Balloon EP

One day, I’m sure, there will be a ‘Kat Vipers The Musical’ and it will draw on Kat’s EP discography, which is jam packed full of unique material. The problem will be finding anyone with the right wiring to pull off the lead role.

Yes, Kat’s back with another crazy EP full of showtime, jazz and opera all twisted into a contemporary edgy sound. From the cello that opens for the title track to the last fading note of ‘This Is Now’, there are barely two similar ideas throughout. It starts off slippery, with raunchy guitars and whispered vocals, then ramps up the pace for the hinge-busting ‘Just Like Jerry-Lee’.

Next, the rolling beats of ‘Wasting Time’, the epic emptiness of ‘Get A New Dog Blues’ and, finally, the sparkling piano of my personal choice, ‘This Is Now’.

Kat’s vocal is the key to this fantastically orchestral release and the method of fitting the words around the tune is as artistic as it gets. It doesn’t quite have the flow of Pearls of Wisdom, or the dark-spark, but it’s a bit more accessible and has some brilliant melodies.
