When we shared our excitement about ‘Weekends and Workdays’, we did say we thought a third album might be on the way from Sea Girls. Well, it’s now confirmed – though it’s simply referred to as album three at this stage.

Along with news of the new album, the band has released ‘Young Strangers’. The song is right in the Sea Girls zone, with its subdued verses and anthemic chorus, with a super-hooky last line of ‘I’m a lot more like you than you like’.

The video, featuring Alyth Ross and Tara Tijani, tells the song’s story. It’s all about human connection. People are like trees, our roots have to be connected together in a wonderful underground network. These hidden connections are more important than what you can see above ground.

The visible part of the tree seems to be in competition with everything around it, stretching high up and spreading a canopy. But hidden from view, Mycorrhizal networks join the forest together, sending signals and sharing nutrients.

At the start of the video, Ross and Tijani are strangers in a big city where everyone is in each other’s way. It’s only when the connection is made that humanity’s superpower can be expressed. And that, in a nutshell, is what the song is about.

Listen to the song. Enjoy the emotional anthem. Go make connections.

Young Strangers Lyrics

Tide rises and the gloom draws in
Forty more minutes on a parking meter
Forty more years saying, “Pleased to meet you”
They’re shit rich and we’re so pure
We might seem different, but we’re not that special
Give us something to believe in now

You only live once
And oh, we got time
You should see the car crash of my mind
Yeah, you want a chance
Well, so do I
We’re two young strangers trying to survive

I’m a lot more like you than you like (Than you like)
I’m a lot more like you than you like (Than you like)
I’m a lot more like you
Two young strangers trying to survive
I’m a lot more like you than you like

Big old lights, discount shops
Shaking your bones till you hear them clapping
Everybody knows England’s collapsing
But I’m naive and he was too
Used to be different, but now we’re special
We’ve got something to believe in now

You only live once
And oh, we got time
You should see the car crash of my mind
Yeah, you want a chance
Well, so do l
We’re two young strangers trying to survive

I’m a lot more like you than you like (Than you like)
I’m a lot more like you than you like (Than you like)
I’m a lot more like you
Two young strangers trying to survive
I’m a lot more like you than you like

When we get together, we could burn down the house
Oh, fuck it all, we’re going mouth-to-mouth

You only live once
But we got time
You should see the car crash of my mind
Yeah, you want a chance (Want a chance)
Well, so do I
We’re two young strangers trying to survive

I’m a lot more like you than you like (Than you like)
I’m a lot more like you than you like (Than you like)
I’m a lot more like you
Two young strangers trying to survive
I’m a lot more like you than you like
